Heavy Metal - SOLD!

Heavy Metal 2006; 29.5H x 20.5W; First in a series by the same name. This piece and I have an emotional connection because it is where I found my voice as a fiber artist. It juried into SAQA: Transformations: Reverberations '07.
The collection traveled to Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England - Quilt Indulgence Festival in Australia - Crooked Tree Arts Center, Michigan - Quilt Visions Gallery in San Diego and Cornell Museum of Fine Art in Delray, Florida. A complex self-portrait of who I am - part punk rock - dark fabrics and a display of metal, with just a tweak of bright fabrics that run though the middle of the piece. Fused commercial and hand-dyed fabrics, netting, tulle, household screen, beads, trim, metal ring trim and metal hardware. You can click on the picture to see it larger. This piece is also in my book "Embellished Mini Quilts." At present it is hanging in a show at The Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton, part of the Contemporary Quilts exhibit until December 31st. It is here where art collector and author, Gregory Maguire saw my piece, and wanted to buy it. Amazing! I am so honored to know that my Heavy Metal piece will be part of his art collection. I am defying gravity just thinking about it!

  1. YOW, Jamie, congratulations! I first saw your Heavy Metal #1 in the SAQA exhibit, and have followed your series with great interest. And when you mentioned Gregory Maguire as your patron, I recognized his name as the author of one of my favorite books ... "Wicked". Way to go, Girl!

  17. I'm beyond thrilled for you, Jamie. I know it was a difficult decision to let go of this one, but it is thrilling to know that it belongs to another artist you admire so much.
A wise woman-painter once told me, "Your art pieces are like your children: you have to let them go".
    Congratulations, my friend.
