This is when determination pays off! "New from Old" contest for The Alliance for American Quilts: I am deeply honored to be awarded the
Grand Prize for "Metal Measures", an art quilt created with my own signatures style utilizing zippers in a log cabin design - 16" square. It was a pleasure to participate in a project that honors the roots of quilting yet embraces contemporary work. Thanks to the Alliance for the important work they do in preserving the history of quilts and the stories of quilt makers, as well as the sponsors of this contest. All I can say is, "woo hoo!"
Congrats to all of the other winners in this contest!
I am soon to be the new owner of a HandiQuilter Sweet 16 sit down quilting machine!!! How cool is that?!
Technique in making this piece. Fabric strips of measuring tape fabric were Mistyfused to recycled zippers, very carefully. The zippers were Mistyfused to a wool felt foundation. Each strip was hand sewn into place. When it was all put together in a 16" square, it was free-motion zig zagged on every length, top and bottom to hold it together. And in case you were wondering, I don't know how to do anything simple...it's just not in me!
See "Metal Measures" in person at the AQS Show in Knoxville, TN July 14-17th - click on website for more info.
