Shipping an Art Quilt to a Client

My art quilt "Molar Eclipse" has sold and will displayed in an orthodontist office!  How cool is that?  Those little molars with root canals and crowns will hopefully cheer up a child up when sitting in the chair waiting for their exam.  For me, having a root canal is what inspired this piece in the first place.

I put together a little packet of "Publication History" so the buyer can see where it has been shown in books and/or magazines.  They are 8-1/2 x 11" on black card stock.  The client saw my art quilt in Quilter's Home magazine in an article about "Weird Quilt Names" earlier this year.
I rolled my art quilt face up in some fabric vellum around a pool noodle
I taped the outside with measuring tape/masking tape, so it would not become unraveled.  Covered the entire roll with archival tissue and taped it on the ends and sides.

Before putting it into a plastic bag so it would be waterproof, I inserted a piece of paper with my mailing address and phone number and the name, address and phone number of where it is being shipped.  Just in case it gets separated from the box, for some odd reason.
I put the "Publication History" info in page protectors, typed up a cover letter and included it's travel and publication history in the text for the client.  I think it's a nice touch to include this information.

  2. I absolutely LOVE this quilt! It is so whimsical and funny and pretty! And I just had a root canal on Tuesday, and I'm waiting for my next appointment to get my crown, so I feel a special affinity for it. :)

  3. That quilt is so funny. It is very cool that it is going to an orthodontist. Good for her/him, supporting the arts! And thanks for your info about how you package and present your work to a client. I sold two pieces this month (!!!) and I should have done something like this.

  5. I absolutely love this quilt! The *dread* has already set in because I'm having oral surgery next month...if only I knew I would be looking at your quilt, the dread would go away! Thanks so much for sharing what you do when you ship a quilt to its new owner. I think it is quite special that you include the quilt's happy history!

  7. Congratulations! Very cute quilt. But I think this quilt will bring good cheer to children & adults in the respective Dentist office. I know I'd be happier walking into a dental office and seeing this cheerful quilt.

  8. What a cute quilt. It would make me happy, well maybe not happy, but OK to sit in a dentist chair if I could look at your art work.

  12. Nice! I never really thought such wonderful inspirations would come up from sitting at a dentist's chair. I'm guessing that you didn't undergo sedation when you thought of that. Colorado Springs' dentistry offices I reckon have inspiring interior designs as well.

Impressive designs you got here. Let me check on your other crafts!
