Jurors
Jamie Fingal is an award-winning, mixed-media fiber artist and author. A full-time studio artist who creates one-of-a-kind art quilts for the wall in both whimsical and abstract styles, her work is featured in many books and magazines about quilts and textiles, has an instructional DVD and has been a guest on Quilting Arts TV. Her work can be found in private, public, and corporate collections. Fingal teaches nationally with Leslie Tucker Jenison. They are co-curators of the "Dinner at Eight Artists" exhibits.
Catherine Gleason is Associate Director of San Diego State University’s Downtown Gallery. She was Director of Exhibitions and Collections at Oceanside Museum of Art from 2005 through 2008 and previous to that was in the curatorial department at the California Center for the Arts Museum from 1994 to 2001. Gleason has been a curator and lecturer on art history for over ten years and currently teaches curatorial theory and museum administration.
Rob Sidner is the Director of Mingei International Museum in San Diego, California. He has overseen 21 exhibitions since becoming director in 2006. Sidner joined the museum as membership coordinator in 1993 and during his tenure there has been director of public relations and assistant director. He played an integral part in planning the build out of the Museum’s 41,000 square-foot facility in Balboa Park and its North County venue in Escondido. The Mingei International Museum reveals the beauty of use in folk art, craft, and design from all eras and cultures of the world.
Acceptance Rules
Visions members may submit up to three (3) entries of high quality contemporary art quilts in any medium for a juried exhibition. Entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2009. Only one (1) quilt by each artist can be selected. An entry is considered to be a quilt if it is composed of at least three layers that are stitched or fastened together. Quilts for sale are strongly encouraged and preferred; however, NFS (Not for Sale) works may be entered.
Each quilt must have at least a 3” sleeve securely attached to the back of the quilt. Quilts 60 inches or wider must have a center opening in the sleeve to allow for proper hanging. A second sleeve at the bottom is recommended for large quilts.
Quilts must be available from October 21, 2011 through February 11, 2012. Images of quilts selected will be retained by Visions Art Museum for publicity and promotional purposes. Acknowledgement of the artist will be made in all such uses. The artist shall retain copyright of the work at all times.
Shipping and Insurance
Selected artists are responsible for packing, shipping, and insurance in transit both ways. Selected quilts by non-U.S. residents may be subject to additional customs duty. Visions Art Museum does not assume responsibility for customs or brokerage charges. Artists shall reimburse Visions Art Museum for any charges incurred.
All quilts will be handled with extreme care, and, when possible, returned in their original packing materials. Visions Art Museum insures accepted work while in its possession at 50% of the retail price and the declared insurance value of not for sale (NFS) works. Artists may be asked to justify the insurance value if required.
Please note: The decision by the jurors is final. Visions Art Museum reserves the right to refuse to exhibit or to remove from the exhibition any quilt which is of poor quality, contains hazardous material or which has been misrepresented in the entry form or digital images.
