Vintage Bird Blocks

I bought four vintage bird blocks that were embroidered from Quilt Market. I decided that I want to practice piecing, because I have new fabric line coming out at Spring Market, and I know whatever pattern I design, there will be piecing involved. So, little by little, I am going to get into the practice.  Chain piecing...almost like riding a bicycle. It came back to me. So the fabrics around the bird blocks are pieced.

Here is my finished piece. Sort of a log cabin thing going on here. I used Sizzix dies to cut out the polka dot flowers. I added extra embroidered elements to the square to mix vintage with me. Pieced and Fused. It measures 15x15

Vintage Bird Block #2

This is in progress with the black and white stripe (fused) and border (also fused), free motion machine quilted and adding the stitched elements and buttons

I added the blue around the edge to bring it altogether. It is ready for final stitching to the felt, so that none of my lovely hand stitching mess shows on the back.

Vintage Bird Block #3.  I am making these one at a time

Added a strip of black and white (fused) to the pieced section

I flipped it over and added Mistyfuse to the pieced portion and the bird block.  This photo shows a Goddess sheet over the surface for pressing. This is so that I could fuse it to the wool felt. I don't use batting. I use National Nonwovens WCF-001 for the foundation and the backing. I don't do binding.
