Liturgical Commission

A dear friend commissioned me to make a stole for a minster who was being ordained in January. The description that I received was earthy, roots, the earth, fruits of the spirit, houses, and words.  The fabrics were all fused with Mistyfuse. This color palette is out of my comfort zone, but I really enjoyed creating the artwork on this stole.  Oh, to do something totally different!  This is the left side of the stole, with the tree and the roots

I am liking how this is shaping up.  The collage is made is layers like the earth. The fabrics are mainly Hoffman batiks, except for the yellow caramelish one which is a hand dye from Fabrics to Dye For. I don't use batting in my work, but use wool blended felt from National NonWovens.  This one is TOY-002 and is one layer. No binding.

The word 'faith' seems lost on this, so I am going to have to find a different color that pops!

Oh, so maybe blue would work for the lettering?

The lettering looks good up close, but not far away. The lettering is cut on a Sizzix Big Shot die cutting machine.

For the win, an ocean blue color for the lettering!

The back has been fused with fabrics, so I am cutting from the front and using the front of the stole as my guide.  It's good to have really sharp scissors for this.  My choice Havel's Scissors, because they hug the fabric, so it doesn't slip. 8" quilting scissors!

I really love how it turned out!

and me modeling it in my parking lot. My neighbor took the picture to show off how great it looks on. I hope the new minister loves it as much as I do. I enjoy making these types of commissions.
